Two types of Legal Paternity
Tests - (Court admissible)
All DNA samples are collected and tested per American Association
of Blood Bank (AABB) rules for full-chain-of-custody requirements.
Legal Paternity Testingwith the mother is also known as a TRIO test. This is the standard test that will be
ordered for a court admissible legal test or when all parties cooperate to verify paternity.
The Trio paternity test requires a DNA sample from the child, the
mother and the alleged father(s) with government issued photo identification, be photographed and fingerprinted
with full chain of custody documents.
A final results report will contain the actual names of the child,
the mother and the alleged father, a notarized signature from the AABB accredited laboratory, the DNA systems
tested, the probability of paternity (POP) expressed in percent and the combined paternity index (CPI) expressed as a ratio to
one.
Legal Paternity
Testing without the mother is also known as a motherless test or
mother not tested (MNT). This is the
standard test that will be ordered for a court admissible legal test, when the mother is unavailable or the mother
refuses to cooperate.
The sampled alleged father must present his government issued photo
identification, be photographed and fingerprinted with full chain of custody documents.
The MNT paternity test
requires a DNA sample from the child and the alleged father(s).
A final results report will contain the actual names of the child
and the alleged father, a notarized signature from the AABB accredited laboratory, the tested DNA systems, the
probability of paternity (POP)
expressed in percent and the combined paternity index (CPI) expressed as a ratio to
one.
